South Bend Lathe Rebuild Kit for Model 10L or 10R Heavy 10

We are excited to introduce a new publication and parts kit designed specifically for vintage South Bend Lathe owners who are looking to overhaul or clean up their Heavy Ten lathe (model 10L or 10R). Our comprehensive rebuild package includes everything you need to restore your lathe to its original operating condition.

Over the course of two years, we painstakingly produced a manual with the South Bend Lathe owner in mind. This manual addresses the most commonly asked questions and methods for renovating a used lathe. While South Bend ceased production of these machines years ago, there are still thousands of serviceable lathes in home shops, small businesses, schools, and machinery dealers. Our book provides information on all of the different models that were made, as well as guidance on evaluating the condition of a lathe before purchasing.

The 156-page instruction manual included in this kit is fully illustrated with almost 450 photographs and provides step-by-step instructions for disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and adjustment. It also includes an illustrated refinishing guide, a lubrication chart, and sources where vintage SBL owners can find additional help and documentation. The text in the manual is printed in a font that is two points larger than normal to ensure easy reading at the bench.

In addition to the manual, the package includes essential parts such as precision spring-loaded capillary oil wicks, die-cut apron gaskets, tailstock washers, way wipers, felts for lubrication, and more. The rebuild kit is manufactured in the USA and is suitable for South Bend Lathe Heavy 10 (Model 10L or 10R) produced from ~1939 to 1988.
